REFRACTORY ERRORS OF EYE ( Myopia & Hypermetropia ) |
| |
Myopia (short sightedness) and hypermetropia (long sightedness) are the
common refractory errors.
Causes of myopia are – Hereditary ,stress of studies ,lack of proper
light while studying
Results are satisfactory in patients requiring lenses upto +3 or -3, (4-5
courses of 20 sittings may be required ).
Excellent results has been reported in myopia even with acupressure and
eye yoga exercises . In patients having very high myopia and condition
increasing rapidly, the futher increase in the number of glasses can definitely
be arrested and the number reduced considerably. |

DEGENETRATIVE CHANGES IN THE RETINA |
| |
• Senile macular degenerations |
| |
It occurs in the aged person. One or both the eyes may be affected. Fundus
picture shows fine pigmentary changes, fine exudates and tiny haemorrhages
all restricted in the macular area. |
| |
Symptoms -- The central vision is lost but the patient never becomes completely
blind. The loss of vision is due to degeneration of the rods and cones |
| |
|
| |
• Retinitis pigmentosa ( night blindness ) |
| |
It is a chronic progressive degeneration of all the layers of the retina
with proliferation of the retinal pigment, occurring usually in the young
and there is hereditary tendency. |
| |
|
| |
• Symptoms |
| |
Night blindness |
| |
Later on dimness of vision. |
| |
|
| |
Prognosis--In advanced life, the central vision becomes very poor, thear
may be nuclear cataract as well.
Modern medicine has no satisfactory cure for above conditions ,but
in acupuncture we have cured many such cases with great success. |

INFLAMMATION OF THE OPTIC NERVE (Optic Neuritis,
Optic Atrophy) |
| |
Its cause is not always clear, some septic condition like tonsillitis
and sinusitis or general febrile illness ,diabetes may precipitate the
lesion. Usually one eye is affected. It may occur in any age or sex .
If it is caused by toxic agents like Tobacco, Ethyl alcohol or a
combination of both alcohol and tobacco, Methyl alcohol , Arsenic , Lead
or Quinine it will affect both eyes. |
| |
|
| |
Symptoms -- Rapid and marked fall of vision
which may be reduced to perception and projection of light only. But there
is no pain in the eye.
Prognosis -- If treated early, the inflammation subsides, appearance of
the disc becomes normal and vision is regained. But if the disease is
allowed to continue for sometime, the optic nerve undergoes atrophy. In
modern medicine we treat the cause that is the septic focus by Steroids
and antibiotics and Injections of heavy doses of vitamin B1, B2,
and B12 daily for at least 20 days, but results may not be satisfactory
while acupuncture has very good results even in very chronic cases. |
