Kidney & Genital

Impotency, Oligospermia, (Infertility), Bed Wetting, Nephrotic syndrome, Neurogenic bladder, ChronicUrinary Infection, prostatitis, enlarged prostate Kidney Failure.

Bed Wetting, Kidney Failure, Neurogenic bladder, nephritic syndrome, Chronic Urinary Infection, prostatitis, and enlarged prostate. Infertility – (Female), Impotency, Oligospermia, (MaleInfertility), Bed-wetting (nocturnal enuresis) –acupuncture is treatment of choice and results are almost 100%, moxibustion is very effective.

Bed Wetting (nocturnal enuresis)
Involuntary discharge of the urine occurring at night and during sleep is called nocturnal enuresis. It is mostly found in the age group of 3-5 years. Normal urine control is achieved by age of 3 years but sometimes it may delayed till adult age I have treated many grown up girls of marriageable age .
Main cause is deficiency of kidney qi with inability of the urinary bladder to restrain the urinary discharge the most important cause is emotional factor child not getting enough attention from parents; too much dominance/scolding by parents; fear and fright injure kidney qi and may precipitate nocturnal enuresis.
Beside this organic cause like occult cleft spine may also respond to acupuncture. These children need greater feeling of security and affection. Scolding is not only useless but positively harmful. Acupuncture treatment consist in tonifying kidney and urinary bladder meridian ,acupressure on Nocturia 1& 2 points on little finger, use of moxa is very effective and readily acceptable to children.

•  Results are excellent, in addition to the acupuncture treatment we do advise the patient to tie a towel around the abdomen with the knot on the umbilicus, while going to bed, and it is the most useful part of the treatment.

Kidney Failure
It is a serious condition in which the kidneys fail to get rid the body of wastes. Kidney failure is the final stage of chronic kidney disease (CKD).

Causes
•  Diabetes milleutes
•  High blood pressure
•  Infection of kidney –Recurrent Urinary Tract Infection ,Enlarged prostate
•  Toxicity of drugs

Diabetes is the most common cause of kidney failure, even when diabetes is controlled, the disease can lead to CKD and kidney failure. Most people with diabetes do not develop CKD that is severe enough to progress to kidney failure.
It has found that high blood pressure and high levels of blood glucose increase the risk that a person with diabetes will progress to kidney failure. Diabetic kidney disease takes many years to develop. Over several years, people who are developing kidney disease will have small amounts of the blood protein albumin begin to leak into their urine.
This first stage of CKD is called micro albuminuria. The kidney’s filtration function usually remains normal during this period, as the disease progresses, more albumin leaks into the urine. This stage may be called macro albuminuria or proteinuria. As the amount of albumin in the urine increases, the kidneys’ filtering function usually begins to drop. The body retains various wastes as filtration falls.
As kidney damage develops, blood pressure often raises . High blood pressure, or hypertension, is a major factor in the development of kidney problems in people with diabetes. Both a family history of hypertension and the presence of hypertension appear to increase chances of developing kidney disease.
Hypertension also accelerates the progress of kidney disease when it is detected early and treatment of even mild hypertension is essential for people with diabetes.

Preventing and Slowing Kidney Disease
•  Blood Pressure Medicines
•  Drugs used to lower blood pressure can slow the progression of kidney disease significantly. Two types of drugs, angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors and angiotensin receptor blockers (ARBs), have proven effective in slowing the progression of kidney disease
•  Moderate-protein Diets
•  In people with diabetes, excessive consumption of protein may be harmful. It is recommended that people with kidney disease of diabetes consume the recommended dietary allowance for protein and avoid high-protein diets.
•  Points to Remember
  • Diabetes is the leading cause of chronic kidney disease (CKD) and kidney failure
  • People with diabetes should be screened regularly for kidney disease.
  • In people with diabetes, excessive consumption of protein may be harmful.
  • Intensive management of blood glucose has shown great promise for people with
diabetes, especially for those in the early stages of CKD.
  • Drugs used to lower blood pressure can slow the progression of kidney disease
significantly. Two types of drugs, angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors and
angiotensin receptor blockers (ARBs), have proven effective in slowing the Progression
   of kidney disease.
  • Minimize use of very potent toxic drugs; use them only when in emergency for minimum
   required period.
  • Any urinary infection must be treated promptly and completely

Acupuncture Treatment is very effective in reversing early stage of Kidney failure when keratinize level is 4- 5 mg , if it is higher level ,acupuncture may be combined with Dialysis initially and then dialysis may be gradually tapered off as condition improves .

Urine Incontinence/Retention (Neurogenic Bladder)-Urine Incontinence/Retention (Neurogenic Bladder) of urine which may result due to trauma to Spine (associated with paraplegia) can be effectively cured.

Nephrotic Syndrome- Acupuncture gives lasting results by rectifying immune system and corticosteroids should be gradually tapered.

Nephrotic syndrome is characterized by massive proteinuria, and edema. Boys below the age of 6 years are common sufferers. In majority cause is unknown, in 5 % it may be due to glomeronephritis, SLE etc.

According to traditional Chinese Medicine, the cause is believed to be the dysfunction of the triple warmer, lung; Spleen and kidney are involved in pathological changes. Qi of lung regulates the water passage, of the spleen transports and transforms while of the kidney is concerned with retention and execution of water.

The triple warmer dominates the water passage enabling the UB to function normally and the urination to be unobstructed.

About 85% of nephrotic syndrome shows minimal lesion, glomeruli may not be show significant abnormality, it is said to be due to immune dysfunction leading to increased permeability to albumin, and treatment by corticosteroid gives good results temporarily leading to control of albumin in urine.

Acupuncture gives lasting results by rectifying immune system and corticosteroids should be gradually tapered. Salt should be restricted in diet. Patients should be advised to take rest, keep warm and to avoid common cold.

Infertility (female) -
acupuncture is very effective, it improves chances of IVF:

It is when women do not conceive after staying with their spouses with normal genital functions for over 1- 2 years fails to be pregnant without contraception.

Secondary infertility fails to be pregnant over 2 years after previous delivery or miscarriage. After excluding Congenital Causes, mechanical /organic, tubal blockage, even when hormonal/ ovarian function are normal, many couples are unable to conceive or IVF fails in such cases, according to acupuncture causes of infertility

•  Kidney Qi deficiency leads to deficiency of Chong & Ren channels and malnutrition of uterus
•  Invasion exogenous pathogenic cold retained in uterine collaterals may obstruction of uterus
•  Phlegm retention due poor functioning of Spleen (due habitual intake of oily food) leads to obstructing uterine collaterals.

Acupuncture is effective in such case, Points from conception / Ren channel, governing / Du channel are selected.

Acupuncture works by improving optimal circulation of blood, Qi, nervous function, as well as good nutrient and mineral balance, the function of ovaries to produce better egg qualities.

Regulate hormones to produce a larger number of follicles, Increase blood flow to uterus and increase the thickness of uterine lining, Prevent uterus from contracting. Relax patient and decrease stress, strengthen immune system, lessen the side effects of drugs used in IVF, decrease chances of miscarriage

ACU-YOGA - The most powerful effect of regular yoga practice on a person's fertility is through the calming, restorative effects on the mind and body

•  Specific postures - TITALI ASAN, ABDOMINAL ASANS, PRANAYAM, MOOLBHAND designed to aid the reproductive organs, thereby increasing chances of pregnancy
•  A quiet, stable mind and body promote fertility, balance the body's hormones and emotions in an effort to make the body more conducive to conception by increasing energetic flow in the body, particularly in the area of the second chakra or seat of creation where the reproductive organs are located

Male-Impotency and Infertility
Impotency – (Is Decline of Kidney Energy) It is very successful especially in majority of cases which are psychological.

Impotence (Erectile dysfunction) decline of kidney energy it refers to the inability to obtain an adequate erection for satisfactory sexual activity ,when it is a persistent problem, however, it can interfere with a man's self-image as well as his sexual life.

It may also be a sign of a physical or emotional problem that requires treatment. Impotence, was once a taboo subject, but attitudes are changing more men are seeking help for the problem, and healthcare professionals are gaining a better understanding of what causes erectile dysfunction and are finding new and better ways to treat it such as acupuncture, acu-yoga and herbal therapies.

Specific steps take place to produce and sustain an erection:

  • Arousal
  • The first step is sexual arousal, which men obtain from the senses of sight, touch
(kissing is very important), hearing and smell, and from thoughts. A person’s sex desire,
arousal and sexual response s influenced by psychosexual development during
   childhood and social limitation.
  • Female sex drive is influenced by menses, pregnancy, childbirth, it increases after
   menopause

  • Nervous system response
  • The brain communicates the sexual excitation to the body's nervous system, which
activates increased blood flow to the penis.

  • Blood vessel response
  • A relaxing action occurs in the blood vessels that supply to the penis, allowing more
blood to flow into the shafts that produce the erection. If something affects any of
these factors or the delicate balance among them, erectile dysfunction can result.
  • Potency depends in general on the overall condition of the human body and in particular
on the condition of the kidneys. All functions of body, including sexually, depends on
the state of this Qi (vital energy).
  • This reserved energy is available to be used as needed for various body functions,
including sexuality. The Qi which can be transmuted into sexual energy, is stored in the
kidneys; therefore, the condition of the kidneys is directly associated with potency.

Tension in the pelvis directly affects the reproductive and digestive organs. When the muscles and meridians of the pelvic area are tense or stagnated the colon can become blocked, and the circulation of both blood and nervous system impulses to the genitals is reduced.

For the sexual sensations to be as full as possible, the pelvic area must be flexible. So avoid Restrictive clothing ,sedentary life style in which sitting at desks, riding in cars, stagnates the body, since it does not have an opportunity to be fully moved and stretched .A number of problems, such as impotency, lack of sexual drive, weak erection, premature ejaculation, can eventually result from the imbalances caused by pelvic blockages.

Causes of Impotency
•  Emotions-
•  It constitute majority cases of impotency, most common are stress, anxiety and fatigue. Depression. Negative sexual attitudes and sexual ignorance that you express toward your sexual partner or that are expressed by your sexual partner such as resentment, hostility or lack of interest also can be a factor in erectile dysfunction.
•  Parental over dominance can also diminish sex drive. Emotional imbalances can affect potency, whether they are associated with intimate relationships or with other circumstances of life. In close relationships; impotency can be due to a lack of mutual emotional responsiveness. In other aspects.
  • Of life, dependency and fear are related to the kidneys, and therefore to potency.
Impotency can be related to feeling of guilt of sex extramarital affair, self-doubt, fear ,
Repressed anger can cause imbalance of Liver Qi leading to impotency .
•  Excess of sexual activity-
•  Each individual has his or her own level of sexual need, an excess of sexual activity (excessive masturbation) before or after marriage can dissipate or drain a person’s reserve energies, and can eventually result in partial impotency.

•  Organic Impotency-
•  Aging, illness, Drugs: Sexual decline is not as rapid as physical, sex is enjoyable in elderly and helps reduce tension, depression, frustration. Man’s highest sex hormone levels occur between 4 a.m. and 12 in afternoons and lowest at 8p.m., woman’s highest level is in afternoon, so elderly couples enjoy sex better in mornings.
•  Illness like Diabetes , Heart disease , asthma , hypothyroidism ,epilepsy and side effect of drugs used for treating them ,genital disorders in male Peronei’s disease , prostatitis or female genital disorders can affect potency . Diabetes markedly affect potency but all diabetics are not impotent Drugs like diadem ,Propranolol ,Amitriptyline ,Steroids ,Alcohol adversely affect potency
•  A lifestyle that generally deteriorates health can also cause impotency. A number of different habits and conditions can deplete the kidneys, thereby affecting potency.
  • eating excess white sugar
  • drinking excess fluids
  • exposure to extreme cold
  • overall fatigue
  • chronic lower back problems
  • Cold is another factor that influences the condition of the kidneys.

The lower back and the kidneys are directly interrelated. The kidneys are physically located in the lower back. A portion of the kidney meridian and special kidney acupressure points can also be found there. Therefore, if someone’s lower back area is stiff or weak, the kidneys can be affected.

Since many people have lower back problems, it’s important to exercise and stretch this area. Because of the link between the kidneys and potency, people who have lower back problems may also have sexual or reproductive difficulties.

Treatment
•  Asana
  • Titaliasan, Pawanmuktasana, suryanamaskara, sarvangasana, halasana , shalabasan
(Locust Pose ) works on the Acupressure points in this area and can increase the blood
supply and sensory impulses to the entire pelvic region. It is an excellent example of
the way in which the traditional Yogic postures utilize Acu-pressure. This poses works
to unblock muscular tensions in the tower back, groin, genital and abdominal regions.
Daily practice can improve posture, elimination, menstrual disorders, potency, and
   other sexually-related problems
•  Pranayama
  • Nadi Shodhana, Bhastrika, Ujjayi pranayams and Moola bhandha,Vajroli, ashwini
   mudras.
•  Acupuncture/AcupressureTreatment
  • It is very successful especially in majority of cases which are psychological
  • Tonify Kidney by needling and Moxibustion on and Ren 3, 4, SP 6, UB 23, Du 4 , Kid 1,Liv
   8 ,Liv 3 ,P6 H 7, Ren 3 – on midline on abdomen just on pelvic bone, Ren 4 - on midline
on abdomen 4 fingers below navel, Sp 6 - 4 fingers above ankle on inner side of leg,
Liv 8 and Kid 10– on inner side of knee, Liv3 - 3 fingers above web between 1st & 2nd
toe, P6- 3 fingers above midpoint of wrist crease.

Health Tips/Prevention
Although most men experience episodes of erectile dysfunction from time to time, you can take these steps to decrease the likelihood of occurrences:
  • Diabetes to be treated by acupuncture /medicine
  • Limit or avoid the use of alcohol and other similar drugs.
  • Diet -Avoid excess intake of salt and sugar. Take balanced diet, fresh food, raw onion,
pishatto in milk at bed time, black beans.
  • Stop smoking.
  • Exercise Regularly.
  • Redeuce Stress.
  • Get enough sleep.
  • Deal with anxiety or depression.
  • See your doctor for regular checkups and medical screening tests.

Causes
•  Sub-normal secretion of androgen
•  It can also occur with normal secretion of androgen due to some primary defect in spermatogenesis or anatomical abnormality of spermatic tract. Male sterility is common is common in bilateral cryptorchidism specially when the testicles are not desended in the scrotom till puberty.
•  Secondary to trauma or irradiation of testis or testicular infection due to mumps, tuberculosis, small pox, gonorrhea, syphllis and pituitary failure.
A Testicular biopsy may show hyospermatogenesis without giving any clue to it cause.

Treatment
Acupuncture gives very encouraging results in selected cases As most of the time the cause of male infertility is not detectable and remediable, the conventional form of treatment is unsatisfactory. Either it is a total failure or there is partial response which is also temporary.

Sperms count have been raised to 20-60 million per ml. from nil and also the motility of the sperms 20%-80% from absolutely non-motile sperms.Besides acupuncture life style changes are important -
•  Eat healthy food with good multivitamins. Antioxidents ,–Vit C , E ,Betacarotene , Selenium , Zinc help protect sperms ( blackberry , garlic ,strawberry ,plums ,alfalfa sprouts are rich in antioxidents )
•  Acuyoga especially Relaxing and certain specific Breathing exercises ( Pranayam ) to reduce Stress
•  Stop Smoking ,reduce Caffeine intake ( tea ,coffee ) and Alcohol
•  High temperature – long time in hot bath ,wearing tight fitting under wear and Long distance driving increase temperature above 32 C ( sperms develop best at 32 C )
•  Avoid Drugs – Cannabis , Cocaine can lower libido causing impotency and also lower sperm count

Natural Approaches to Treating Infertility
Depending on the cause of infertility, natural treatments can be very useful either used alone or in conjunction with other fertility treatments. Natural approaches to promote fertility include:
  • Eating a healthy diet
  • Exercising in moderation
  • Learning about the best time to conceive
  • Eliminating caffeine and alcohol intake
  • Effecting lifestyle changes, such as smoking cessation
  • Regular fertility acupuncture treatments and taking Ayurvedic medicine

It generally take 3-6 months to conceive naturally with fertility acupuncture treatments. However, there are no guarantees because each person is unique and different. All acupuncture plans are tailored to the specific needs of each individual. Treatment frequency will depend on many factors: age, previous pregnancy history, general health, stress level and lifestyle. In addition to acupuncture, Ayurvedic medicine lifestyle, diet and exercise play important roles in the conception process. Consistency of treatments is the key elements to success.

Can acupuncture be used in conjunction with IUI, IVF and other fertility treatments?
Absolutely! Acupuncture increased the chance of conception by 50% when used in conjunction with IUI, IVF and other ARTs according to a study published by Fertility and Sterility. Additionally, acupuncture helps to minimize the side-effects of fertility drugs, reduce stress and anxiety, and reduces the risks of miscarriages.
